John Cena states that the upcoming main roster vs. NXT tournament, John Cena Classic, is like an All-Star game for him. He explained it on the same interview with CBS Sports, from the Backlash announcement, where he felt bombarded with information.

“I guess this to sum it up in a sentence, I know I dropped a lot of information at Backlash. I think to sum it up in a sentence, it could be a version of WWE’s All-Star game. It’s a night of exhibition, so we don’t really have to build any long lead stories into it. It is the current competing with, and that means they might be paired with who knows what, like the bracketology is endless. Could be compared with, they could be up against the future of the company, uh, superstars from NXT,” he said.

Cena now defines the tournament as an exhibition where no real stories would lead up to it. The brackets for those would be endless, and main roster stars would compete with the future of WWE.
