This past week on SmackDown, Danhausen teased the return of someone larger while he was in his lab. And it might just be Corbin, who might return in the coming weeks. While nothing has been confirmed officially yet, here are five potential reasons why Baron Corbin might be returning to WWE in 2026.

#5. Danhausen might need backup

As part of the storyline, Danhausen’s issues with Kit Wilson and The Miz don’t seem to be over quite yet. Perhaps the best way to deal with being outnumbered could be getting a six-foot-eight-inch giant to help him out.

Corbin could return as Danhausen’s muscle, especially since the former AEW star isn’t the most convincing athlete in the ring. This way, the two could set out on some very entertaining storylines, and might even go on to win the WWE Tag Team Championship, currently held by R-Truth and Damian Priest.

#4. The possibility of the gingerbread man returning

The gingerbread man was mercilessly attacked by Sami Zayn a couple of weeks ago, leading to his funeral before Backlash. Trick Williams avenged his fallen friend by retaining the United States Championship against Zayn at the recent premium live event.

However, there is a chance that the gingerbread man might be revived. And if anyone can do it, Danhausen is at the top of the list. The Very Nice Very Evil star defies logic with his character, considering he can curse people and get his way. In the same manner, he might be able to run some outrageous experiment to bring the gingerbread man back to life.

Only this time, the man behind the costume could be revealed as Baron Corbin after a few weeks of teasing.

#3. Baron Corbin remained on good terms when leaving the company

Corbin left the company in 2024 after his contract expired and was not renewed. The manner of his departure was rather abrupt, since he had only just started teaming up with Apollo Crews on the main roster.

However, their run didn’t last long as Corbin was let go of and Crews returned to being an afterthought on SmackDown. Despite his contract running out, Corbin left WWE on good terms, which might be one of the reasons why he is being considered for a potential return.

Many WWE Superstars have left the company once and returned for a second, or even third run. Names such as CM Punk, Rey Mysterio, Matt Cardona, Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre are among the top of that list. Perhaps Baron Corbin could add himself to that line-up, since he has much better relations with the company than some of the names mentioned when they left.

#2. Baron Corbin was always reliable and diverse

Corbin started out in NXT with his Lone Wolf persona, and stood out with his incredible physicality. Eventually, the main roster came calling and he used the same gimmick there. However, he eventually switched things up.

From Constable Corbin to Sad Corbin and Happy Corbin, the former United States Champion showed incredible range even when he was given a tough character. Not to mention, he was also great in the ring and was among the finest and safest performers.

With WWE Superstars getting injured left, right and center, a safer worker might be best for everyone involved. And Baron Corbin might just be the best person to help out in that regard.

#1. He might still have world championship aspirations

It is rather crazy that Baron Corbin was the man who retired Kurt Angle at WrestleMania 35. However, he was booked terribly in the aftermath, and gained nothing from retiring one of the biggest legends of WWE.

Angle himself has revealed that he was quite surprised after the company didn’t push Baron Corbin after WrestleMania 35. Regardless, it is likely that he still wants to win a world championship in WWE, and this could be one of the main reasons behind a potential comeback.

The world title picture is currently swarmed with stars such as Cody Rhodes, Gunther, Roman Reigns and Jacob Fatu. However, he might manage to get a shot down the line if the company decides to pivot and not have their biggest stars carry the world titles on both brands.
