The Best in the World returned to the company on the July 6 episode of WWE RAW, as Cody Rhodes’s last-minute replacement to face Sami Zayn in an Undisputed WWE Championship match in the main event.
Punk and Zayn fought a hard-hitting match; the Second City Saint’s game plan was well executed, and he beat the former Honorary Uce clean to capture the Undisputed Championship and end Sami’s title reign in just nine days.
Fans have had mixed reactions to the title change, and a large section has turned its back on Punk for ruining Sami Zayn’s reign. WWE could use this rare heat for the Best in the World as a perfect chance to finally turn him heel.
Rumors are rife that WWE is now planning to book a Cody Rhodes vs. CM Punk dream match for The Biggest Party of Summer. The American Nightmare is a white-hat babyface, and many see him as the John Cena of this generation, attracting younger fans to the product.
For now, Punk is also a babyface, but to add sympathy for The Prodigal Son, Triple H could finally turn Punk heel, following in the footsteps of Cena and Randy Orton.
That said, in this article, we will take a look at three ways CM Punk could turn heel in WWE:
#3. Can brutally attack The American Nightmare
While CM Punk replaced Cody Rhodes on the July 6 edition and won the Undisputed WWE Championship, writing himself into The Prodigal Son’s story, The American Nightmare is still the rightful No. 1 Contender for the title, as he earned the shot by beating Jey Uso on Friday Night SmackDown last week.
WWE is now officially advertising Punk for SmackDown, as he is the new Undisputed Champion. Cody Rhodes could appear to challenge The Best in the World in a title match.
But Punk could deny him, attack The American Nightmare and officially turn heel, and then cut a heel promo, ripping Cody apart. This could eventually lead to them being booked for a title match at SummerSlam, making the feud more thrilling.
#2. Bury the former WWE Champion
A large section of the WWE Universe is sympathetic to Sami Zayn, as he lost his title in just nine days and really didn’t get a chance to enjoy his time as champion.
Zayn could confront Punk and tell him that he had become the same old star who is a part-timer and takes the full-time star’s spot, triggering The Best in the World. Seeing Sami disrespect him and fans backing him, The Second City Saint could turn heel and brutally bury Zayn by attacking him and calling him a B-plus star.
He could trash-talk the fans about supporting average stars, because they see themselves in B-plus performers. Punk is a master on the microphone and could do wonders as a heel.
He could also have a rematch with Sami Zayn at the upcoming Saturday Night’s Main Event as a heel, where he could cheat his way to a win over the former Honorary Uce and then head forward to building his rivalry against Cody Rhodes for SummerSlam.
#1. Heel pipebomb
CM Punk’s infamous Pipebomb promo is one of the best mic work in professional wrestling history, and even after a decade, fans remember it as one of the classic moments in the company’s modern era.
With The Best in the World once again champion, Summer of Punk is back, and Triple H could use it well. Seeing fans turning their backs on him in the coming weeks, The Second City Saint could finally go off on the WWE Universe, cutting a cut-throat, brutal Pipebomb targeting their double standards. He could also go after fellow top stars, from Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns to Sami Zayn, kicking his heel run off with a bang.
That said, the angles proposed above are speculative, and nothing is confirmed as of now. However, with a lot unfolding on the Road to SummerSlam, it will be interesting to see what plans Triple H and his WWE creative team have in store for Punk as champion.
