In response, Femi challenged Lesnar to a match at SummerSlam. The Beast Incarnate accepted this challenge with a Hell in a Cell match stipulation. Following this, Oba and Adam Pearce engaged in a backstage conversation. During this, the Nigerian star informed the RAW GM that he’s going to forgo his title shot at SummerSlam.
This means that the Ruler will no longer compete in a World title match at SummerSlam. It was a surprise for many, as the winner of KOTR usually gets a World Championship match at the Biggest Party of the Summer.
However, this isn’t the same for Oba Femi. In this article, we will discuss three reasons why WWE forced the former NXT Champion to give up his SummerSlam title opportunity.
#3. WWE wants Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins as the SummerSlam night 2 main event
Post-WrestleMania 42, WWE has dropped major hints for a Seth Rollins vs. Roman Reigns match in the company. This proves that the Triple H creative regime had plans for a Roman vs. Seth bout for a long time to unfold at SummerSlam 2026.
The creative plans of the former Shield brothers facing off in a showdown at the Biggest Party of the Summer could be a major reason why WWE forced Oba Femi to give up his SummerSlam match.
With Femi out of the World title picture, WWE only needed a face-off on RAW after Night of Champions to officially announce Roman vs. Rollins. Meanwhile, the Ruler was in discussion to be Reigns’ opponent at SummerSlam, until Femi put his title match on hold.
#2. Couldn’t afford to take a loss; holding off on his crowning moment
Since beating Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 42, Oba Femi has been a force of domination in the Stamford-based promotion. He only lost a match against the Mayor of Suplex City at Clash in Italy 2026.
It’s crucial to note that Roman Reigns’ World title reign has just started in the company. Also, with the Bloodline’s return with Jacob Fatu, the OTC Championship reign isn’t expected to end anytime soon.
This means that if Oba and Roman compete in a World title match at SummerSlam, the Head of the Table is likely to beat the Ruler. Considering that the Nigerian star has huge momentum on his side, he can’t afford to take a loss in a World Championship match.
So, to protect Oba Femi’s crowning moment, WWE might decide to force The Ruler to give up his SummerSlam title match.
#1. Oba Femi vs. Sami Zayn isn’t a SummerSlam-worthy match
Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins WWE World Heavyweight title match is now official for the Biggest Party of the Summer. After Brock Lesnar destroyed Oba Femi on RAW and announced a Hell in a Cell match, Femi was left with only the Undisputed Championship.
There is no doubt that Zayn and Femi may deliver great in-ring action, but the match doesn’t sound like a SummerSlam-worthy showdown. So, it’s better to save Oba Femi’s World title opportunity for now rather than giving him a match which adds nothing to his career.
