While the OTC is the fan-favorite for the win, considering he hasn’t been in the world title picture for a long time now, here are three reasons why the creative team shouldn’t pull the trigger on this move at ‘Mania 42:

#3. To validate CM Punk’s ‘fighting champion’ narrative

Since the feud between CM Punk and Roman Reigns kicked off, Punk has consistently called out Reigns for his part-time status.

If The Second City Saint retains at WrestleMania42, it would prove that his work ethic and dedication reign over the OTC’s schedule of limited appearances as a major attraction. The World Heavyweight Champion has already defended the title against names like Bron Breakker, AJ Styles, and, most recently, Finn Bálor on two occasions.

Therefore, a win in the main event of ‘Mania would further solidify the fighting champion’s run.

#2. To stretch the Roman Reigns’ redemption arc

It’s important to note that Roman Reigns hasn’t been in the world title picture since dropping the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship to Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40.

While fans are eager for his return to the top, it looks like there is greater storytelling potential in Reigns potentially struggling to get himself back to the world title picture. If the OTC is booked to lose to CM Punk at WrestleMania 42, this setback would force Roman Reigns to rebuild himself. He could use that opportunity to finish his storyline with The Vision before eventually becoming world champion again.

Interestingly, this process of overcoming adversity would help generate more fan anticipation to see the Head of The Table regain his place at the top of the division and hold the top title again.

#3. CM Punk still has unfinished business with LA Knight

If there is another babyface who deserves a World Heavyweight Championship opportunity against CM Punk, it should be LA Knight.

The Megastar has been poorly booked by Triple H for quite some time. Moreover, fans were unhappy with his early exit from the Elimination Chamber. Many believe that LA Knight truly deserves a one-on-one title match with The Best in the World.

However, if the latter were to drop the gold to Roman Reigns, it would spoil the dream match between Knight and Punk for the big one.
