- Jaguar’s glamorous EV stars in a new photo shoot in Monaco.
- The Type 01 doesn’t have a traditional grille or a rear window.
- The prototype’s thinner camouflage wrap reveals some of the finer details.
Not long to go until Jaguar finally takes the wraps off its first new-era EV. But before the Type 01 breaks cover later this year, the teaser campaign continues with a photo shoot to build even more hype. Gone is the bulky camouflage, replaced by a thinner body wrap that gives us a better idea of what to expect. Details such as the parking and windshield sensors, along with a long shark-fin antenna, suggest we’re looking at a virtually production-ready prototype.
Of course, the biggest difference compared to the concept car is the switch to a more practical four-door layout. Despite its imposingly long hood, the Type 01 does not have a combustion engine. Jaguar has already put an end to rumors about installing a gas engine in a range-extending version, in which the ICE would act solely as a generator to charge the battery rather than drive the wheels.
Hopefully, the imposingly long nose means the electric grand tourer is getting a generous front cargo compartment instead. At the back, however, the trunk looks surprisingly small for a vehicle measuring about 204.7 inches (5.2 meters) long. The side windows also appear relatively small in relation to the vehicle’s generous proportions. For added convenience when the battery runs low, both front fenders feature large covers concealing the charging ports.

The Jaguar Type 01 Won’t Have A Rear Window
These fresh images, taken on the streets of Monaco, confirm the Type 01 doesn’t have a rear window. It’s also missing an upper front grille, though it does feature a lower air intake behind the license plate. The slim LED headlight strips closely resemble the concept car’s minimalist look, while the top-down view highlights just how pronounced the wheel arches are at both axles.
Say what you will about Jaguar’s reset, but the electric GT is a head-turner and should become even more of an attention-grabber once the slinky wrap comes off. Its swoopy profile reminds us of the Cadillac Celestiq, another extravagant ultra-luxury EV. With a massive 126-inch (3.2-meter) wheelbase and standard 23-inch wheels, the Type 01 is bound to cause a stir wherever it goes.
Beyond its striking appearance, Jaguar’s first model since completely abandoning combustion engines is shaping up to deliver a thrilling experience. At least, that’s the promise the Tata Motors-owned brand is making to prospective buyers: “an electric car that drives like no other.” A big part of that experience will come from the three electric motors producing a combined 986 horsepower and virtually instant torque exceeding 959 pound-feet (1,300 Newton-meters). According to the marketing brief, those numbers should also translate into “instinctive driving dynamics.”
The Type 01 will finally break cover in the coming months before deliveries start in 2027.

Motor1’s Take: With a starting price expected to comfortably exceed $100,000, the Type 01 will need to live up to the hype. Jaguar’s ostentatious EV will have to be more than just a pretty face. The market for high-end EVs remains challenging, as wealthy buyers continue to favor large-displacement combustion engines with as many cylinders as possible.
Attempting to lure in Bentley buyers will be a huge undertaking, especially since Crewe has vowed to keep gas engines beyond 2030. It’s too late now for Jaguar to return to its BMW-chasing years, as all bets are riding on the GT and the other high-end models that will follow on the same electric-only platform.
