In an interview with The Velvet Ropes, WWE Hall of Famer The Godfather recalled an incident while they were on the road where he got to smoke weed with the legend. Moreover, the former Intercontinental Champion stated that the company’s policies were against such acts, but he never got into any serious trouble for his actions, even after he crossed paths with the McMahon family and Bruce Prichard.

“Someone comes to me and says, ‘Hey Godfather, you got any weed? Snoop’s in a bad mood…’ I roll up some blunts… we’re down there just blazing up in the room [at the Rosemont in Chicago]… I bust out the door. Who’s there? There’s Vince, there’s Linda, there’s Stephanie… Bruce Prichard… They’re all just looking at me. I said, ‘Hey, don’t look at me, you guys are the ones who brought Snoop Dogg here.’ I just kept walking. The funny thing about it, I swear to you, I never heard one thing from anybody about that,” Godfather said. [H/T – TJR Wrestling]

Is The Godfather working in WWE?

The Godfather became one of the iconic characters from the Attitude Era, but the gimmick cannot work in the modern setting, as it won’t be suitable for a certain age group. Regardless of the gimmick, Charles Wright remains one of the most beloved performers of his time in the Stamford-based promotion.

In 2016, he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, and The Godfather has made sporadic appearances for the company. In 2023, Wright revealed in an interview that he signed a five-year legends deal with the Stamford-based promotion. However, it doesn’t mean he’s working as a competitor or an on-screen performer, but he has ties with the company.
