The Yankees will have a new backup catcher entering the 2025 season, as the team announced on Friday that they’ve traded veteran Jose Trevino to the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for reliever Fernando Cruz and catcher Alex Jackson.
Trevino, who joined the Yankees in a deal with the Texas Rangers back in 2022, played 243 total games as the primary backup, slashing .230/.279/.361 with 23 home runs, 21 doubles, and 86 RBI. New York valued his work behind the plate, however, as his framing and fielding helped him earn a Gold Glove and All-Star appearance three seasons ago.
