The Division I AIA high school golf season has officially wrapped up with the conclusion of the boys’ and girls’ state tournaments this week. The Xavier girls took home their second straight championship and 39th overall. Brophy dominated on the boys’ side and took home the title.

Here is a recap of the girls’ and boys’ 2024 Division I state tournaments.

Girls

Xavier came into the tournament as the favorite to win it all again after picking up its 38th golf championship last year.

Xavier’s Alexis Lamadrid and Casteel’s Jordan Cowing were tied for the individual lead with a 4-under par performance after the first round.

Xavier was ahead of the pack with its team score of 302. Pinnacle and Casteel rounded off the top three with their scores of 305 and 309, respectively. Kaitlyn Moreland led the way for the Pioneers, shooting a 2-over to put herself in fifth place individually through day one. Pinnacle had four golfers among the top 15 and was just three strokes behind the defending champions heading into the second round.

Lamadrid and Cowing were neck-and-neck in the second round as well, but it was Lamadrid who came out on top by one stroke. She shot a 3-under on day two for a combined 137, the lowest individual score of the tournament.

Xavier finished with all five of its players within the top 20 scorers and the Gators took home its 39th golf state championship, beating out Casteel by eight strokes. Cowing shot a 4-under and finished with a 138 to take second place individually. Her efforts, along with Kylie Kuppersmith’s score of 147, was enough to push Casteel past Pinnacle to take second place in the program’s first Division I tournament.

Boys

Through day one, Brophy held the lead by four strokes over Perry. Asher Nelson, Dylan Boenning and Jake Langbein led the way for the Broncos, all shooting a 3-under in the first round.

Joseph Nelson of defending champion Hamilton was one of four tied with the low score of 5-under par. Right there with him was Millennium’s Chase Rogers, Desert Vista’s Jakob Stanley, and Pinnacle’s Liam Allan.

Brophy shot a combined score of 285 in the second round, which gave them a margin of 21 total strokes over second-place Perry. Over both days, the team shot 8-under par. Boenning shot a 6-under par on day two, which gave him a total score of 135.

Boenning fell by just one stroke to Nelson, who finished at a 134 through both days, giving the Hamilton junior the individual low score of the tournament. Perry’s Ethan Butters followed Boenning with his 7-under performance to take third place and leading the Pumas to their runner-up performance. Millennium rounded off the top three.
