Former WWE head writer Vince Russo recently spoke about the origins of his head with “Rowdy” Roddy Piper. The legendary wrestler was often vocal about his dislike for Russo.
Roddy Piper fired shots at Russo during a TNA pay-per-view. He called out the writer for running WCW out of business. Piper even accused Vince of killing Owen Hart.
During a recent episode of BroDown with host Mac Davis, Russo recalled being on Piper’s show. He wanted to know the actual reason for the heat between the two men. Piper told him about an incident when they were both in WCW. The veteran writer detailed that Roddy thought Russo was trying to exert his power by letting his associate Ed Ferrara greet the legend first before doing the same himself. Vince claimed he had no reason to disrespect the wrestler and was shocked to hear this.
“So I go on his show, and you know Piper, he’s thinking he’s gonna chew me up and spit me out. So he starts telling this story of where the heat came from. Do you know where the heat came from? In his freaking head, he’s got this animosity towards me for God knows how many years without saying anything to me. Bro, I go to WCW. Piper is working his first show under me. Piper shows up at the building. Ed Ferrara sees Piper before I do. So Ed Ferrera goes up to Piper and introduces himself to Piper. Then, when I saw Piper, I did the same thing out of respect. In his mind, for all these years, I big-timed him. I sent my cronie. I’m like, bro, he saw you first. Why in God’s name would I disrespect Roddy Piper that I’m meeting for the first time?”
During the conversation, Russo also shared what transpired when he came face-to-face with Roddy Piper on live TV back in 2002.
