Both Nick Aldis and Maverick spent a lot of time on the British independent circuit before becoming big stars. They were also part of the Team Dixie Carter during their time in TNA Wrestling and Maverick used to interfere in matches to help Aldis retain the TNA World Heavyweight Championship. Aldis used to go by the name of Magnus during that time.

WWE recently posted a vlog featuring Aldis’ journey to the match at SummerSlam. During a small clip in the vlog, Aldis could be seen embracing with Drake Maverick backstage. This was Maverick’s first appearance on WWE programming since 2021. A fan shared the clip on X which garnered a reaction from the SmackDown General Manager.

“Can’t overstate how glad I was to have @Spud_TM there that day,” he wrote.

It is great to see Nick Aldis back with his former buddy after so long.

Nick Aldis reflected on his in-ring return at SummerSlam

The SummerSlam match against Gunther marked Aldis’ first wrestling match in nearly 3 years. While speaking with WWE Now: SummerSlam Recap with Sam Roberts, Aldis revealed how he pushed himself harder than ever to prepare for his match against Gunther at SummerSlam.

“God, I was so blown. Everyone talks about this and says there’s nothing that replicates working in the ring, and it really is true. I’ve been doing the most intense conditioning workouts for the last couple of weeks to get ready, and I’ve genuinely never trained that hard in my whole life. Still, just four minutes in, I was like, ‘Oh my God.’” [H/T ITR Wrestling]

Fans loved to see the National Treasure back inside the squared circle after so long. It will be interesting to see if Triple H is planning to have Nick Aldis compete again in the near future.
