Michael Brennan fired a solid opening round at the Farmers Insurance Open.

But then shortly after, his name on the leaderboard had a DQ next to it. He had been disqualified from the tournament after Thursday’s first round.
That negated the fact that he shot a two-under 70 to begin his tourney.
It also likely will have fans looking at the scoreboard and wondering what happened.
Why was Michael Brennan DQ’d from Farmers Insurance Open?
The PGA Tour announced the disqualification about 9:30 p.m. ET for a breach of Model Local Rule G-11.
For what?
That rule governs the “use of non-permitted green-reading materials.”
While the official announcement wasn’t more specific, it means Brennan was likely using some kind of green-reading aid that produces contour maps to help figure out how putts are going to break.

It’s a bit fascinating that Brennan would’ve gotten caught in this bind, so maybe it was a new piece of equipment that he didn’t realize was banned.
Brennan is a 23-year old from Virginia with three PGA Tour Americas wins and one victory on the PGA Tour.
