Iga Swiatek has eased to another French Open title as the Polish star stormed past Jasmine Paolini in straight sets at Roland Garros.

The 23-year-old has continued her dominance of the tournament with a fourth trophy lift in the past five years on the clay in Paris.

Ahead of the final showdown, she was heavily tipped as the favourite to keep hold of her crown, and there was no real fightback from Paolini, as Swiatek won 6-1 and 6-2.

After a battle in the opening set, the contest edged away from Paolini, and Swiatek remains as the dominant force at Roland Garros.

How did Iga Swiatek win the 2024 French Open?

The tale of the tape at the end of the contest shows how Swiatek simply had too much for her opponent across the contest and Paolini’s chance came and went within the opening six games.

A double fault from Paolini saw Swiatek gain the edge, at 4-2 in the opening set, and she never really looked back from there on.

With the stands ringing to the cheers of “Iga, Iga, Iga”, the defending champion cruised over the line in the first set.

Paolini was unable to reset her level for the crucial second set, and despite a late rally, to bring it back to 5-2, Swiatek ticked the final box and lifted the trophy.

Iga Swiatek’s French Open record

The French Open has become Swiatek’s playground in recent years and she is now joint third on the all-time list, with four titles, alongside Justine Henin.

USA icon Chris Evert remains as the outright leader, on seven, but Swiatek will be confident of challenging that record in the years ahead.
