It’s no secret that the New Orleans Saints’ running back situation – from the free agent signing of Travis Etienne Jr to the prospect of drafting Jeremiyah Love in next month’s NFL Draft – has left many pondering about Alvin Kamara’s future with the team.
The franchise leader in rushing yards, scrimmage yards, and total touchdowns, among other stat categories, Kamara is a black and gold icon who has been a face of the franchise since entering the league in 2017. But his departure could be imminent, and potentially in both his and the team’s best interest.

Having recently had his contract restructured to reduce his cap hit, giving the Saints greater flexibility should they choose to move on from the veteran before he becomes a free agent next summer, all options look to be on the table for Kamara as things stand.
There’s every chance he plays out the season with New Orleans, is cut, traded, or even elects to retire.
The five-time Pro Bowler has made it clear time and again that his desire is to remain a Saint, but never has his future felt so uncertain.
Injuries have riddled the former Tennessee Vol in recent seasons, and the team has clearly moved on from the era defined by the likes of him, with second-year head coach-quarterback duo Kellen Moore and Tyler Shough leading the charge while DeMario Davis is out the door, with Cameron Jordan and Taysom Hill among the other vets threatening to follow.
