One of the biggest events on the golf calendar is taking place this weekend at the Bethpage Black Course in Farmingdale, New York.

The Ryder Cup, held every two years, is one of the most coveted titles in the sport as golfers represent their country (in the case of the United States team) or their continent (in the case of the European team). Players truly care about the bragging rights that come with competing on the international stage, and they better.

After all, there’s no prize money at stake. That’s right, the winner of the Ryder Cup receives absolutely nothing. All that’s on the line is pride.

Despite that, there is still quite a bit of cash to be made for competing in the Ryder Cup, at least for the American team — captained by Keegan Bradley and headlined by Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau and Xander Schauffele.

Each of the 12 golfers on the American team will receive $500,000 for participating, with $300,000 of that being donated to charity. Unfortunately, its competition can’t say the same.

The European team — captained by Luke Donald and featuring Rory McIlroy, Viktor Hovland and John Rahm — receives no money for participating.

Despite that compensation discrepancy, the European team is looking to defend its Ryder Cup title after winning in 2023. Team Europe has won five of the last seven Ryder Cups dating back to 2010.

The United States is looking to reverse its luck from its trip to Rome two years ago on home turf this weekend.
