Young began the final round of The Players four shots adrift of the leader, Ludvig Aberg.

The 28-year-old from Scarborough, New York, only had one PGA Tour victory to his name before the tournament began this week.

However, Young has now doubled that win tally after his tremendous performance on Sunday at The Players Championship.

As Aberg collapsed on the back nine at TPC Sawgrass, it was left to Young and Matt Fitzpatrick to battle it out for the title.

However, the American took the trophy in the end. Cam Young tapped in from just eight inches to win The Players on Sunday.

And his job was made so much easier after the sensational drive he hit down the 18th fairway.

It was a bold decision and one that commentators like Wayne Riley questioned at the time.

However, Young’s bravery was rewarded after he found the middle of the fairway and piled the pressure on Fitzpatrick’s shoulders.

The 28-year-old actually made history with his drive on the final hole of The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass.

His drive, sent like an absolute missile down the fairway, went an astonishing 375 yards.

That is the longest recorded drive on the 18th at TPC Sawgrass in the shot-link era (since 2004), as highlighted by the brilliant stats specialist Justin Ray on X.

That means that it was the longest drive on the 18th hole in the history of the game, because nobody was hitting a 375-yard drive pre-2004.

Courageous Cam Young deserved Players win

Young is one of the longest hitters in the game but even with his explosive power, he still needed to step up to the plate and produce the goods under pressure on Sunday at Sawgrass.

His drive on the final hole of the day won him The Players Championship.

Sometimes you need to be either very brave or very lucky to win a huge tournament like The Players.

The 28-year-old New Yorker certainly wasn’t lucky; he earned every bit of his victory at Sawgrass on Sunday.

However, Young showed plenty of courage, and the fact that he even hit a driver off the 18th tee on his way to winning The Players proves that he was more than deserving of the title in the end.

Now the challenge for Young will be to start winning golf tournaments consistently, because he’s more than capable of recording two or three victories every single year.
