GolfPass released its list of the top-25 best public golf courses in Ohio on March 4, with Chippewa Golf Club in Doylestown taking the top spot on the list over Stillwater Valley Golf Club in Versailles.

The closest course from the top 10 to Columbus is Snow Hills Country Club in New Vienna, approximately 67.5 miles away.

“The elite private clubs around Columbus are the epicenter of Ohio golf, but there are plenty of really strong public golf courses spread throughout the state,” GolfPass’ Jason Scott Deegan and Drake Dunaway wrote.

At the No. 12 spot is Cumberland Trail Golf Club, a public course located in Pataskala. The course has a 4.5-star rating on 591 reviews on the site.

“This is a top public course in the entire area,” said one user review from the rankings. “Greens are always in good shape. Drainage is great. Fairways well taken care of. And course is challenging enough for most handicaps. If playing during the weekday price is great. Weekends get pricey but well worth it.”

Spring 18-hole weekday rates for the course range from $40-50, while in-season rates creep up to the $50-60 range.

Two other courses from the list are roughly 50 miles away from Columbus: Chapel Hill Golf course in Mount Vernon (ranked No. 19, 46 miles away) and Lakeland Golf Club in Saint Paris (No. 20, 56 miles away).
