Ilja Dragunov was called up to the main roster in 2024 after a lengthy NXT run. He spent his 2024 on RAW and delivered some memorable matches. However, his torn ACL in one of those matches took him out for more than a year.

The Russian-star came back to the squared circle in October last year. He changed brands and gained instant success on SmackDown. His first match after a year-long hiatus was against Sami Zayn as a part of the United States Open Challenge. The stealth and intensity of Dragunov won him the match and the title, solidifying him as a top star.
