John Cena will be in action on Friday Night SmackDown next week, with the groundbreaking announcement coming during tonight’s episode. The Undisputed WWE Champion will face Ron ‘R-Truth’ Killings in a rematch from last month.

The two wrestled at Saturday Night’s Main Event three weeks ago, with Cena winning with ease. Since then, Truth had been let go and brought back by WWE after a fan revolt. The legendary star attacked The Last Real Champion at Money in the Bank last Saturday, with Triple H calling the entire situation “part of the show.”

And after attacking him again on SmackDown, Killings got his rematch against John Cena. This has caught the eye of the wrestling world and even WWE’s parent company, TKO Group. Their official X/Twitter handle replied to a tweet about the match being made official with a clapping emoji, indicating they are excited.

This comes after TKO was seemingly behind the cost-cutting measures taken by WWE. Several superstars have been let go in recent months, but only one sparked a movement so big that it couldn’t be ignored.

WWE President and TKO board member Nick Khan had to personally reach out to R-Truth following his exit. He even allowed the 53-year-old star to return on his own terms, embarking on a serious run and changing his ring name to Ron Killings. Whether he beats John Cena, though, is another discussion.
