Tiger Woods was always likely to get questions about Anthony Kim before the Genesis Invitational, especially after Kim’s win at LIV Golf Adelaide just days earlier.

Kim picked up his first professional win in nearly 16 years in Australia, coming back from five shots down to give LIV Golf what’s arguably its biggest moment yet.

Kim didn’t play a competitive round for over a decade before signing with LIV in 2024, and his return has sparked debate over where it stands among the sport’s greatest comebacks. Tiger Woods’ 2019 Masters win is still the benchmark for many.

Woods put his body through plenty before lifting that trophy again at Augusta National. Few people can relate to Kim’s journey quite like him.

At one point, Kim appeared to have the potential to follow in Woods’ footsteps on the PGA Tour. And it looks like Woods believed he could reach those heights, as shown by his comments on what Kim has now accomplished.

“Yeah, this kid hit it so good. He was on an unbelievable run when he won at Charlotte, and we played against each other at Congressional. He played unbelievable at the 2008 Ryder Cup. He had so much natural talent. He could hit any shot he wanted,” said Woods.

“Then to see him struggle in life and didn’t really want to play golf, didn’t really want to be part of golf, and for him to come all the way back and for him to win and to be as devoted as he is to his family, it’s a story in which you just have to wrap your heart around it because of the struggles.

“We can all relate to struggles. We all struggle in life. The longer it goes, the more tough times you’ve had. But for him to fight through it and for Anthony to get where he’s gotten to from the low that he was in is something that, as I said, you have to just wrap your heart around.”

Anthony Kim’s win is yet another reason to think twice before counting Tiger Woods out

Kim had been relegated from a league already facing questions about its overall depth, making his turnaround even more surprising.

His form had shown some improvement toward the end of 2025, but few could have expected him to chase down Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau at The Grange.

This kind of comeback could serve as motivation for Woods, who hasn’t played in a PGA Tour event since 2024 and faces growing uncertainty around his return.

Over the past year and a half, it’s been hard not to question whether we’ve seen the last of him at the top level, given all he’s had to deal with physically.

But Kim’s win is just another example of how sport has a way of delivering the most unexpected stories. Maybe there’s still one left in Tiger yet.
