PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — The hole location at the 17th hole for Saturday’s third round of the Players Championship at the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass will be better than most.
Five paces from the front and five from the left, a tribute to the 25th anniversary of Tiger Woods holing his famous 60-foot downhill bomb on his way to winning the title in 2001.

According to a photo posted by Golf Channel’s social media account, the Tour engraved the cup with Tiger Woods 2001 “Better Than Most.”
The better than most cup that will be used during Saturday’s third round of the Players on the 17th hole.
That was the famous call by NBC’s Gary Koch, who repeated the phrase multiple times as the ball made its way to the hole.
“I knew how quick it was, so I gave it a little bit more,” Woods explained. “It broke left a lot at the top with the old green. It broke left a lot at the top and then it just snapped at the right.
“Yeah, I hit my spot and I was just hoping that it would take the break…I’m like would you start breaking? And as soon as it started to break, I’m like, stop breaking. And then it caught the low side of the hole and went in.”

Better than most, indeed, and 25 years later still an indelible moment in Players lore. Expect NBC to show it once or three times during Saturday’s broadcast and perhaps Koch, who is working for the network this week, will get a chance to reprise his famous call.
