It was a heartfelt moment that immediately felt like a farewell, even though there has been no official confirmation that Gargano is leaving WWE. Johnny Wrestling’s speech was a reminder of just how meaningful a proper goodbye can be. However, not every WWE Superstar gets one.

Over the years, several recognizable names have quietly disappeared from WWE television, leaving fans to process their departures through social media announcements, reports, or a final match that wasn’t presented as a farewell.

That said, here are six WWE Superstars who deserved a more fitting send-off.

#6. Ricochet

The high-flying WWE Superstar had been with the company for six years and captured both the United States and Intercontinental Championships. However, his final television appearance was an angle in which Bron Breakker brutally attacked him and sent him through a car windshield.

It was effectively an exit angle, but there was no emotional goodbye and no chance for Ricochet to properly address the WWE Universe. His contract expired on July 1, 2024, and he eventually joined AEW.

Interestingly, Ricochet later explained that WWE intentionally kept his exit open-ended because there was still a possibility that he could re-sign. That explains the unusual nature of the departure, but it still left fans without a traditional farewell.

#5. Sasha Banks (Mercedes Moné)

Sasha Banks’ final chapter with the company came under circumstances that made a conventional farewell pretty much impossible. Banks and fellow WWE Superstar Naomi were the reigning WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions when they walked out of the arena before the May 16, 2022, episode of Monday Night RAW.

The two had reportedly been frustrated with the creative direction of the women’s tag division and were scheduled to compete in the show’s main event. Instead, they left the building and surrendered their championship belts. WWE would then announce that both women had been suspended indefinitely and that the titles had been vacated.

She and Naomi successfully defended the Women’s Tag Team Championship on the May 13, 2022, episode of SmackDown, while their May 15 WWE live event match turned out to be Banks’ last bout with the company. At the time, nobody knew they were seeing the final WWE appearance of one of the most important WWE Superstars of her generation.

#4. WWE Superstar Ilja Dragunov

Ilja Dragunov’s WWE exit might be the most obvious example of a superstar leaving without anyone realizing that the final chapter had already been written.

The former NXT Champion and WWE UK Champion officially departed the company after his contract expired on August 20, 2026. He was subsequently moved to WWE’s alumni section, confirming reports that his time with the company had come to an end.

After losing the United States Championship to Carmelo Hayes, the Mad Dragon appeared sporadically in 2026. He competed in the Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia, suffered several losses on SmackDown, and appeared in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal before disappearing from TV altogether.

#3. Kairi Sane

Kairi Sane’s 2026 departure may be one of the clearest examples of a WWE Superstar leaving before her story was finished.

Sane was released as part of the promotion’s massive post-WrestleMania 42 roster cuts in April. The timing was so surprising because she was involved in an ongoing storyline with Asuka and IYO SKY. Reports indicated there was significant frustration over her departure because the storyline had not reached its intended payoff.

There wasn’t a farewell match or emotional goodbye on WWE television. Instead, fans learned of her departure after the roster cuts were announced. Sane later addressed the situation herself, saying she loved the business, her teammates, and her fans.

#2. The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods)

The New Day mutually parted ways with WWE on May 2, 2026, bringing an end to Kofi Kingston’s nearly two-decade run with the company and Xavier Woods’ 16-year tenure. Reports indicated that the departures followed disagreements over a proposed restructuring of their contracts.

There was no emotional final match. No special celebration of The New Day’s incredible run. No extended tribute to the team that became one of the most successful and recognizable tag acts in WWE history.

The situation has become even more interesting since their departure. Kingston and Woods are now free agents, and both have been linked with a potential move to AEW, although nothing has been confirmed as of writing.

The departure of Hall of Famer and former WWE Superstar Lita is a complicated example because she technically did receive a farewell match. However, the circumstances surrounding it meant her exit never felt quite as celebratory as it should have.

After seven years with WWE, the Hall of Famer announced that her Women’s Championship match against Mickie James at Survivor Series 2006 would be her final bout. The company itself promoted it as Lita’s farewell, and James defeated her to capture the title.

Immediately after the match, while Lita was selling the loss, the tag team known as Cryme Tyme (JTG and Shad Gaspard) came out with a box (labeled “H* Sale”) of her personal and intimate belongings that were stolen from her locker room. They proceeded to auction off and give away her personal items to the live crowd.
