• The next Fast & Furious movie will hit theaters on March 17, 2028.
  • It’s called Fast Forever and will conclude the events of 2023’s Fast X.
  •  Fast X director Louis Leterrier is returning.

It’s all coming to an end, family. Most likely the final Fast & Furious movie will hit theaters 27 years after the first one. Called Fast Forever, Universal Pictures plans to release the final installment of the franchise on March 17, 2028.

This movie will conclude the events of Fast X, the last film in the franchise, which Universal released in 2023. This follow-up was supposed to hit theaters in 2025, but an October 2025 report from The Wall Street Journal revealed that the film still lacked an approved script.

Fast X director Louis Leterrier is expected to return, along with Vin Diesel, but the rest of the cast and plot details remain a mystery. Fast X ended with a cliffhanger, leaving several characters in peril.

Fast Forever will be the franchise’s 12th installment, which includes 11 Fast & Furious films and the 2019 Hobbs & Shaw spinoff. The first film hit theaters in 2001 and was much more… grounded than recent installments. The original followed an undercover cop infiltrating the Los Angeles street racing scene as he attempted to bust a group of semi-truck hijackers.

We can only imagine the hijinks that the crew will get up to in this new one.

Motor1’s Take: The Fast & Furious franchise has ventured far from its street racing roots, which Diesel wants to get back to in this film. This is supposedly the last installment in the franchise, but we imagine its future is dependent on the success of the next movie. Fast X underperformed at the box office.
