There was more intrigue surrounding this year’s U.S. Ryder Cup captain’s picks than any year in recent memory.

Why? Because the captain himself had a legitimate case to be a player as well.

Keegan Bradley won the Travelers Championship in June and finished T-7 at the Tour Championship last week. He was No. 11 in the Ryder Cup points standings and there was a widely accepted belief that he would announce himself as one of the six captain’s picks for this year’s U.S. team.

That wasn’t the case, though, and he instead went with six others: Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Ben Griffin, Cameron Young, Patrick Cantlay and Sam Burns. They will join the six others — Scottie Scheffler, J.J. Spaun, Xander Schauffele, Russell Henley, Harris English and Bryson DeChambeau — as the 12 players who will represent the red, white and blue at Bethpage Black next month.

Bradley’s picks, of course, sparked much discussion online.

A few PGA Tour players took to social media to give their two cents about Bradley’s decision to forego playing in the Ryder Cup and remain as solely a captain.

Many people agreed with Bradley’s decision.

But some thought Bradley earned his spot and shouldn’t have been so humble.

Others, meanwhile, highlighted the irony in the entire situation. Bradley was made captain because he was snubbed from a spot on the team in 2023. Now, in 2025, he’s essentially forced to snub himself for the greater good.

The 2025 Ryder Cup will be played Sept. 26-28 at Bethpage Black in New York.
