The Chicago Blackhawks are still dealing with some injuries as Connor Murphy missed the last game with a groin injury, Laurent Brossoit remains out without having suited up for the team this season, and Alec Martinez has missed a number of games this season as well.
The first update provided was on Murphy as head coach Anders Sorensen said the defender is being re-evaluated today again. Sorensen didn’t know or didn’t share exact details as he described what needs to be re-evaluated as “doctor talk.”
As for Brossoit, Sorensen stated that he’s “progressing, but I don’t know the timeline.” It has been an ongoing thing all season long with Brossoit. The netminder, who was signed in the off-season to provide support for Petr Mrazek, was injured before the season got going and the timeline has continuously been pushed.

There is no need at all to push Brossoit back before he is ready to go as Chicago is last in the NHL and Arvid Soderblom, who has been in the NHL in his place, has played great all season. Brossoit is still signed for another year and while the Blackhawks would definitely like to get him in some games this season, it will create a logjam and a problem in having too many NHL-capable goalies.
An update was not provided on Martinez, but the last update on the veteran defenseman was on Dec. 30 ahead of the Winter Classic. While on the injured reserve, he was listed as day-to-day, so he may not remain out for too long as we are a week past that now.
With some veterans on the sidelines with injuries, it has allowed for the Blackhawks to give playing time to some of the younger players or prospects in order to help get them acclimated to the NHL and be more ready to contribute in the coming years.
