Heading into this week’s U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club with the weight of the golf world on his shoulders, World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler had himself a tough opening day.

Heading into Thursday’s opening round, a stat provided by Golf Digest had been floating around that betting on Scheffler to win outright provided a 65.88% return on interest.

With Oakmont Country Club being considered as one of the toughest places to play on tour, many fans and analysts were operating under the assumption that Scheffler was immune to those challenges.

During his opening round showing, Scheffler showed that he is in fact human, recording six bogeys in total, with four of them coming on the front nine. While starting the back nine strong with two pars and a birdie, he added another bogey on hole 13.

His frustrations from 13 ended up carrying over to hole 14, as a shot didn’t go the way he would have liked, Scheffler was caught on camera slamming his iron into the ground, leaving a massive divot.

Every golfer can relate to the feeling, and as expected, fans had plenty to say about his outburst.

“Lame. Dude has won like 20 million dollars in the last month, and now he’s mad he missed a golf shot. No one feels for him,” wrote one user.

‘There are kids watching Scottie! Be a role model,” implored another.

“One of us,” joked one fan.

“Guy’s a pest,” added another.

“Two Stroke penalty Unsportsmanlike conduct  Is it necessary. Other Sports call penalties why not Golf,” questioned one fan.

He will have to find a solution quickly as he is set to tee off at 7:40 a.m. ET with Viktor Hovland (+1) and Collin Morikawa (E).
