It’s been a wild 13-plus months for the top player on the PGA Tour. Scottie Scheffler, fresh off a dominant performance at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, continues to stack wins.

Scheffler now has 14 PGA Tour victories and has won the Masters twice, in 2022 and 2024.

One of the most dramatic moments in his career happened a year ago at the PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club. Just before the second round, Scheffler was arrested and charged with second-degree assault of a police officer — a Class C felony — along with three misdemeanors. The charges were dropped later that month, but the incident sparked a frenzy across social media.

This time of year is also special in Scheffler’s personal life. On Thursday, the world’s No. 1 golfer shared a big update — his son Bennett just turned one. He posted the milestone on his social media: “One whole year with our little man!”

As Scheffler prepares for this year’s PGA Championship, he aims to complete the second leg of a career Grand Slam. The 28-year-old former Texas A&M star had his best finish at the PGA Championship in 2023, tying for second. Despite the challenges of his arrest and becoming a new father, he still finished tied for eighth last year.

Scheffler capped off last season with a win at the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, earning his first FedEx Cup title. His total prize money for the season reached $62 million.

He was named the 2024 PGA Tour Player of the Year and received the Jack Nicklaus Award for the third straight season, becoming the first player since Tiger Woods (2005-07) to win it three years in a row.

The start of the 2025 season was a bit shaky after Scheffler injured his right hand while preparing Christmas dinner. Still, his performance last week reminded fans he’s capable of playing at a level that few other golfers can match.
