It was a bombshell at Preußen Münster. As the second division club announced today, long-time SCP player Marc Lorenz has been dismissed without notice. In addition, the club has filed charges against its former captain.
The club justified the decision in a press release by stating that there were “concrete indications of irregularities in connection with donation funds” to the detriment of the 37-year-old. After the club’s statement, Lorenz himself spoke out on Instagram.
In doing so, the Münster native admitted that he had accounted for donation funds late, but said the amounts had already been settled at the time of his dismissal. The midfielder also spoke openly about suffering from mental illness, which led to the delayed payment.
The club has not yet commented further on Lorenz’s statement.
