After Buffalo Sabres forward Ryan McLeod won a faceoff in the defensive zone on the penalty kill, Power attempted to clear the puck. New York Rangers defenseman Adam Fox easily kept in the puck, and then Mika Zibanejad quickly scored.

During the first intermission of the contest, legend Wayne Gretzky called out Power for the sloppy play.
Here is what The Great One said about Power about the play:
“I just want to say, guy wins the faceoff, Power has to get the puck out. That’s why you’re losing. There’s no excuse for that puck not getting out. On your strong side. 220 pounds. 6-foot-6. That puck has to get down the ice.”
It is hard to disagree with Gretzky’s opinion, as that poor play from Power led to a goal for the Rangers. In addition, Power was benched following it, so head coach Lindy Ruff was clearly unhappy about it, too.
However, Power redeemed himself once he got another chance to play later in the game. With five minutes left in the third period, Power scored with an excellent snipe past Rangers netminder Igor Shesterkin.
