The company even paid a classy tribute to him in the closing moments of this week’s RAW, with a graphic celebrating his life and career. Rusev has now reacted to the news by sharing condolences for Jim Shank. Check out his tweet below:

What’s going on with Rusev in WWE?
The Bulgarian star made his sensational return to WWE in April 2025 after spending five years in AEW. Though it looked like he was destined for a sustained run at the top this time around, things haven’t panned out in his favor.
The first few months were promising as he was involved in an entertaining mid-card feud with Sheamus that culminated at Clash at Paris 2025. Since then, however, his stock has gone down considerably.
Following a brief feud with Dominik Mysterio for the IC Title and participation in The Last Time Is Now Tournament, he disappeared from TV for months. The former US Champion returned for the Men’s Royal Rumble match in Riyadh, where his elimination in mere 32 seconds made it clear that WWE has lost faith in him.
While Rusev has racked up a couple of wins on Main Event, it hasn’t instilled much confidence in his long-term prospects in WWE. It remains to be seen what the company has in store for him as WrestleMania 42 inches closer and closer.
