A report from Germany has confirmed an outrageous offer for Liverpool forward Luis Diaz. Anfield Watch broke the story this week.

It’s now no secret that Luis Diaz could leave Liverpool this summer. The Colombian is reportedly pushing for a move, in fact.

Diogo Jota: Thank you

Exactly how eager the Reds are to sell him is another matter. But then, it’s also not clear how eager teams are to buy him.

Judging by the state of the offers, anyway. SportBild now reports that Bayern Munich have made an offer for Diaz of around €50m.

That’s a solid €30m below Liverpool’s asking price and not an offer that is ever going to be accepted. Anfield Watch reported earlier this week that Bayern had made an offer early last week that was quickly rejected.

We had the figure down as €45m and we imagine it’s the same offer – just off by a couple million euros. What certainly lines up is that this was an outrageous offer and for all the wrong reasons.

An awful Luis Diaz offer

That wasn’t even the only terrible offer for Diaz. Barcelona also made a crazy bid that was even less than Bayern’s.

It was reported in the press at the time that Liverpool rejected it and said the forward wasn’t for sale. That’s pretty much the only way you can respond to offers like this – no, Diaz won’t be sold in the kind of deals you’re after.

We do believe Liverpool would sell him for that €80m figure. They may even sell for under that but it would certainly be considerably above €50m.

For one, that’s quite a way below the amounts going for Premier League forwards right now. Muhammed Kudus, Matheus Cuhna, Noni Madueke and Athony Elanga have all gone for between £50m and £60m – none of them have the reputation of Diaz.

Yes, he might be older but he’s also just a much better player than those moving for more money. Someone who just paid a pivotal role across two positions for the Premier League champions.

€50m for that is crazy. If you want Diaz, pay up.

Rest in peace, Diogo Jota.
