Dooley helped the promotion reach new heights by devising business development strategies and taking up growth initiatives. Moreover, he was reportedly among the masterminds behind WWE’s acquisition of Lucha Libre AAA last year.

Recently, PWInsider and the Wrestling Observer reported that Patrick Dooley had quietly parted ways with the Stamford-based company due to budget cuts. It was also reported that the decision to release Dooley came from someone at the level of Ari Emanuel or Mark Shapiro at TKO Group Holdings.

Patrick Dooley’s exit seemingly surprised many in the sports entertainment juggernaut. A new report by Fightful has now suggested that Dooley left World Wrestling Entertainment a few weeks ago.

WWE has released many top names this year

WWE’s biggest premium live event of the year, WrestleMania, was a huge success this year in Las Vegas. After the show’s conclusion, the company shockingly released several top superstars.

Former champions, such as Aleister Black, Kairi Sane, Zelina Vega, Bo Dallas (aka Uncle Howdy), Erick Rowan, Nikki Cross, and Dexter Lumis, were let go by the Stamford-based company as part of budget cuts. Interestingly, Sane was part of a high-profile storyline before she left the sports entertainment juggernaut.

The 90-day non-compete clause in the contracts of the superstars released in April 2026 recently concluded. Many wrestlers have already returned to the ring on the independent circuit. Joe Gacy, who was part of The Wyatt Sicks, has even won the Xcite Wrestling Heavyweight Championship.

Black, who is now a free agent, recently revealed his new look and teased his return to the squared circle. It will be interesting to see where the released superstars land in the coming days.
