Liverpool plan to head into the 2025/26 season with a new striker on board. Although the Reds claimed the Premier League title in emphatic fashion, they did so without a reliable centre-forward.

Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota started 23 matches between them – scoring a combined 11 times – and quite often it was left to Luis Diaz to take up the striking mantle.

The Colombian did well in the circumstances – but it’s clearly time to sign an upgrade in the position. There are question marks around all THREE of Liverpool’s centre-forward options – who have been linked with moves away from the club this summer.

Darwin, 25, is on the radar of teams in Italy, Atletico Madrid and Al-Hilal. He turned down a move to Saudi Arabia this week but is still scheduled to depart if the right bid is made.

Victor Osimhen on Liverpool list

Then there’s Jota – 28 years old and out of contract in 2027. Given his patchy fitness record, it is easy to see why the Reds are tempted to move on.

Diaz, meanwhile, has a contract expiring in 2027 and there is little prospect of him renewing on the terms he deserves. Therefore he too could leave if Barcelona or Al-Nassr stump up the requisite cash.

Those outgoings would free up significant transfer cash that sporting director Richard Hughes could then spend on a new name up top.

And now one world-class forward has entered the equation with a claim that Liverpool executives are now discussing signing Victor Osimhen.

Liverpool hold talks over Osimhen

“Napoli star Victor Osimhen’s name cropped up in a high-ranking transfer meeting at Anfield,” claims a report in GIVEMESPORT.

“Liverpool executives have brought him up as a possible signing as Slot goes in search of a frontman who would leapfrog the likes of Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota in the pecking order.”

The 26-year-old is coming off the back of an incredible season at Galatasaray – where he won the Turkish league and cup double. Osimhen scored 37 times in 41 games overall for the Istanbul side – where he’s been on loan from Napoli.

The Italian champions still hold his rights and it is expected that he will be sold this summer for around €70m. However one complication could be the Super Eagles star’s wages – estimated at £400k per week.

And the piece also concludes that Osimhen is still likely to end up on a permanent deal with Gala.

“There remains a slim chance of him ending up in the Premier League as his camp have conceded that Turkish side Galatasaray are expected to win the race for his signature,” says the report.

Liverpool have also been linked with Hugo Ekitike, Joao Pedro and Alexander Isak. But a proven goalscorer like Osimhen being added to the mix is always going to raise intrigue.
