The Boston Red Sox welcomed the Atlanta Braves for their first of two games at Fenway Park this week, and the home team was handed an 8-3 loss on Tuesday night.
Boston’s offense continued to struggle without some of their best players. In total, the team scored just three runs and struck out 14 teams.
Bobby Dalbec (1-for-3) and Dominic Smith (1-for-4) drove in the Red Sox’s only runs of the day, and they came in the third and fourth innings to give the team an early lead.
However, Atlanta scored six unanswered after that (after Smith made two errors to allow the first two runs in the second inning). Kutter Crawford gave up six runs (four earned) on five hits and two walks over his six innings. Chase Anderson entered the game in relief and allowed two runs on three hits over the final three innings.
The loss drops Boston back under .500 with a 30-31 record and a 13-18 record at Fenway. The Red Sox and Braves will meet again on Wednesday night for the second and final game of the set.
