After a disappointing series sweep at the hands of the Arizona Diamondbacks at Fenway Park, the Boston Red Sox announced that one of their top prospects is moving up in the organization.

According to MLIB reporter Chase Ford, the Red Sox are promoting shortstop/second baseman Mikey Romero from High-A Greenville to Double-A Portland on Sunday.

Romero, 20, was Boston’s first-round pick in the 2022 MLB draft out of Orange Lutheran High School. Battling injuries, he appeared in just three games for Greenville last year and started the 2024 season at the same level.

This year, Romero has hit .275 with and .835 OPS, 10 home runs, 40 RBIs and a stolen base. However, he’s been even better in last 39 games, hitting .328 with a 1.012 OPS and eight home runs.

According to Sox Prospects, he’s the 18th-best prospect in the organization.

With the team’s top four prospects being promoted to Triple-A Worcester in recent weeks, Romero will have plenty of eyes on him in Portland.
