The Second Annual John Prete Memorial Golf Tournament hit the links at Twin Hickory Golf Course and made an impact in Hornell.

Two dozen teams filled the course for the captain and crew format on a picture-perfect day for golf Saturday, Sept. 14.

Capturing first-place was the team of Jim Brown, Dan Brown, Carl Dolittle, Scott Galvin.

The runner-ups were Kevin Kearney, Cordell Galvin, Dakota Galvin and Frank Galvin. Finishing third was the team of Bill Ormsby, Bill Norton, Bob Maxson and Steve Prior.

The tournament raised scholarship funds and honored the memory of John Prete, a 1947 Hornell graduate who served during the Korean War. He went on to a 39-year career with the New York State Department of Transportation in Hornell, retiring in 1995. Prete remained active in the community and was a regular at Twin Hickory.

“Our family would like to thank the community for their continued love and support,” stated the Prete family. “The sponsors, volunteers, community donations for raffle baskets from many establishments, Dave and Liz Sherburne who let us host at Twin Hickory Golf Course, golf participants, Logo Printing and many others behind the scenes made our tournament possible.”
