Ferland Mendy has suffered a relative dip in form this season and his inconsistent performances have left the door open for Carlo Ancelotti to persist with Fran Garcia at left-back.
Should the Spanish full-back play against Rayo Vallecano later tonight, he equals his appearance tally from last season and it is clear that he is far more prominent than he was a year ago.
According to reports from Fichajes, however, Garcia’s future at the club is still not a given and a transfer in the summer cannot be entirely ruled out yet.
Interest from England
The news outlet maintain that Los Blancos have not made a final decision over Garcia’s status in the squad yet and that they plan to analyze his situation in the final months of the season before taking a call.
Needless to say, however, Alphonso Davies not arriving is a major factor that plays in favor of Garcia staying at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Interestingly, Bournemouth from the Premier League are said to be interested in signing Garcia to strengthen their left-back position.
Andoni Iraola, who worked with Garcia at Rayo Vallecano, rates the Real Madrid star highly and sees him as a fitting replacement for Milos Kerkez.
They have studied Garcia’s profile thoroughly and see him to be a good fit for the Premier League’s style of play.
Everything now thus depends on Los Blancos’ stance on Garcia and the offer Bournemouth can table. From the player’s perspective, leaving the Spanish capital makes little sense after all.
So far this season, the 25-year-old has made 20 appearances in La Liga including 13 starts. He has provided just one assist in that duration but has been defensively able with an average of five defensive actions per game.
