Then, after an initial period of rehabilitation, Mami had to go under the knife to have the tear surgically repaired. She informed fans of her condition on social media a few days back after she had her first surgery in 14 years of being in the profession. Amid her injury hiatus, Ripley and her husband, Buddy Matthews, were spotted on popular streamer KingKreas’ Twitch livestream.

Ripley had a painful-looking knee brace and moved about very gingerly with the help of two crutches and additional support from someone. Although The Eradicator seemed in good spirits, her movements were extremely restricted, and she even had to be helped onto a chair.

“I can stand, I just can’t move,” Ripley was heard saying.

Now that she had had to undergo surgery, she is expected to be out for an undisclosed period with no updates on her recovery timeline yet. This will come across as bad news to her fans who aren’t likely to see her on WWE television anytime soon.

Rhea Ripley effectively stripped of WWE Women’s Championship

Rhea Ripley has been out of in-ring action for a little over two months. Her return was expected sooner, with the initial diagnosis suggesting that she just needed a rehabilitation period before she could return to the ring.

Accordingly, WWE announced a tournament which would culminate at SummerSlam in a Five Women Ladder Match to determine an Interim Women’s Champion till Ripley returned. And so at The Biggest Party of the Summer, a new Interim Women’s Champion was crowned in Chelsea Green.

At SummerSlam, Green outlasted Tiffany Stratton, Charlotte Flair, Lash Legend and Jade Cargill to climb the ladder and grab the belt. Then, after Ripley’s surgery announcement on social media, WWE quietly dropped the “Interim” and crowned The Hot Mess as the Women’s Champion on this week’s SmackDown.

This would suggest that Rhea Ripley has been stripped of the title, with no current updates on when she could be back in the ring.
