There was talk early in the week of possible thunderstorms during the first round of the 2026 Players Championship. On Thursday, the PGA Tour’s weather forecast called for mostly cloudy skies in the morning but come midday, things could get interesting.
At noon ET in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, home of TPC Sawgrass, there’s a 60 percent chance of thunderstorms. That number jumps to 90 percent at 2 p.m. ET.

It could be just one band of rain, but PGA Tour Live reports that could be up to a three-hour delay.
According to Accuweather, the Ponte Vedra Beach area’s high temperature is expected to be 77 degrees and they’re calling for about a 50 percent chance of rain at noon and 75 percent chance at 2 p.m. ET.
Whichever forecast proves correct, it appears the first round could be disrupted for a bit. The good news is the weather is supposed to be great for Friday’s second round and Saturday’s third round. Sunday’s final round, however, could see a return of some more weather.
Since the event moved to TPC Sawgrass in 1982, there have been six Monday finishes, the most recent in 2025 when Rory McIlroy defeated J.J. Spaun in a playoff. This after a lengthy Sunday that featured a four-hour rain delay.
