Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby picked up an assist on a first-period goal by Bryan Rust on the power play at 11:01 for his 1,600th career point.

On a night when Crosby was chasing 1,600 points, and Evgeni Malkin was chasing his 500th goal, the Penguins captain reached his milestone first, becoming only the second player in franchise history to reach the plateau after Hall of Famer Mario Lemieux.

Last season, Crosby moved into tenth place on the NHL’s all-time scoring list and now is the tenth player to reach 1,600 points.

As the Penguins’ second all-time leading scorer, Crosby is now 123 points behind Lemieux for the top spot on the list.
