Valverde’s scintillating contributions on the night have now earned him the honour of the Champions League Player of the Week.

The Real Madrid captain beat competition from Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez, Paris Saint-Germain winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and Bayern Munich rising star Michael Olise to be named the Player of the Week.

Not stopping there, Valverde was also named in the Champions League Team of the Week after his top performance against Pep Guardiola’s men last night.

He is joined by Real Madrid veteran goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois in the Team of the Week, with the Belgian keeping a clean sheet against the Cityzens at the Bernabeu.

In addition to that, the seasoned goalkeeper also registered an assist on the night, setting Valverde up for the opening goal with a brilliant long ball, which the Uruguayan controlled with an exquisite touch before beating Gianluigi Donnarumma.
