If you were hoping to buy a new high-performance Kia EV, you’re out of luck. At least, for right now. The automaker has paused offering the EV6 GT in the United States for the foreseeable future.
In a statement shared with Road & Track, Kia said that “due to changing market conditions, the 2026 EV6 GT will be delayed until further notice.” Kia didn’t provide a specific reason for the pause, but the automaker also noted that the rest of its EV6 lineup, which it builds in Georgia, is unaffected by this decision.

Kia produces the EV6 GT trim in South Korea, a country that now faces a 25 percent import tariff on automobiles, and the car isn’t cheap. It started at $65,275 for 2025, including the $1,475 destination charge, and an additional $15,000 would put its price on par with the $80,000 Cadillac Lyriq-V.
The United States has also ended federal incentives for electric vehicles, affecting EV sales across every automaker. Sales of the EV6 are down nearly 60 percent so far.
Motor1’s Take: The Kia EV6 GT is the latest casualty of a chaotic global automotive industry. New tariffs have made it uneconomical for automakers to offer certain models in America, but we hope the delay is temporary. If Kia is building the rest of the EV6 lineup in the United States, maybe it can shift GT production.
