With the MLB trade deadline over one month away, the New York Yankees may find themselves as buyers if the right situation presents itself.

One of the high-end scenarios includes poaching the biggest star from the cross-town rival Mets, who may be looking to offload some talent after a disastrous start.

While nothing of substance has been reported on whether the Yankees will try to land slugger Pete Alonso, Jim Bowden of The Athletic listed the Bombers as a potential landing spot.

Bowden also mentioned the Houston Astros, Seattle Mariners, San Francisco Giants, Chicago Cubs and Minnesota Twins as landing spots.

Entering Tuesday, the 29-year-old first baseman is hitting .240 with 14 home runs, 37 RBI and a .797 OPS. He’s coming off back-to-back 40 home run seasons.

The Yankees may need to address the first base position at the deadline if Anthony Rizzo continues to struggle. The fan-favorite lefty has just one hit in 29 plate appearances in June and was given two days off to get his mind right.

Alonso would be a half-year rental before he hits free agency, and he wouldn’t come cheap. The Yankees have proven they’re willing to take that gamble with someone like that considering the deal they made for Juan Soto.

Then again, Soto and Alonso are not in the same stratosphere as hitters.

Adding Alonso would give the Yankees an unstoppable trio in the middle of the lineup and while it may seem unlikely, it will be something to monitor.
