The Nets and Golden State Warriors are finalizing a trade that would send Dennis Schröder out west and in return send De’Anthony Melton‘s expiring contract to Brooklyn, SNY’s Ian Begley confirms.
Brooklyn will also send a second-round pick to Golden State in exchange for three second-round picks.
Both Schröder and Melton become trade-eligible on Sunday, Dec. 15 since they signed new contracts this past offseason.
Schröder, 31, is averaging 18.4 points per game over 23 contests, helping the Nets get out to a surprising 10-15 record and in the middle of the play-in conversation.
The Warriors (14-10) and Stephen Curry are currently the No. 5 seed in the tight Western Conference, and hope Schröder’s scoring can boost their 14th-ranked offense (113.1 points per game).
Melton, 26, averaged 10.3 points over six games to start the 2024-25 season before tearing his ACL, which will cause him to miss the rest of the season.
This could be the start of many trades the Nets make, as the team has outperformed expectations and was thought to compete for a top pick in the potentially star-studded 2025 NBA Draft. Dorian Finney-Smith and Cam Johnson’s names have been a topic of conversation for many playoff-contending teams.
According to Begley, teams have called the Nets about Finney-Smith and some discussions involve Brooklyn receiving multiple second-round picks for the 31-year-old forward.
The NBA trade deadline is on Thursday, Feb. 6 at 3:00 p.m.
