Two of college football’s top rushing offenses square off at noon ET Saturday on CBS when Navy and Air Force clash in the first leg of the 2025 Commander-In-Chief’s Trophy series. The first matchup between service academies this season pits the Midshipmen’s top-ranked rushing attack against the Falcons’ No. 7-ranked scheme as option offenses put the mobile quarterback play of Blake Horvath and Liam Szarka on full display
The deciding factor could be whether Air Force’s defense stiffens up against a familiar foe. That unit allowed at least 44 points to each of its first three FBS opponents in a miserable start to the campaign. But if there is one thing the Falcons know how to defend against, it is the option.
The side that comes out on top earns a leg up in the race for the Commander-In-Chief’s Trophy, which goes to the winner of the series between the FBS’ three service academy programs. Navy currently possesses the trophy after sweeping Air Force and Army last year.
Navy’s quest for a second 10-win season in as many years and a potential trip to the College Football Playoff runs through this contest, which stands between the Midshipmen and a 5-0 record to open the campaign. Third-year coach Brian Newberry has his program in line to contend at the top of the American after taking third place a season ago.
Air Force, meanwhile, remains in search of its first win since August.
