The Golden Knights recorded the first 10 shots on goal before the Predators recorded one but failed to find the scoresheet in the first period. The shot differential at the end of the period was 15-5 in favor of Vegas, but Nashville maintained the 1-0 lead.
Second Period (NSH 1, VGK 3)
Vegas finally found the scoresheet just over four minutes into the second period, when Brett Howden picked his spot and rifled it top corner to beet Annunen and tie the game at 1-1.
Momentum quickly swung in the Golden Knights’ favor, as Nicolas Roy scored with a wrist shot just 1:34 later to give Vegas a 2-1 lead.
Nashville struggled to find sustained time in the offensive zone, resulting in zero shots on goal through the first eight minutes of the period. The Golden Knights eventually capitalized on the man advantage when Fedor Svechkov was whistled for Nashville’s third penalty of the game, as Alexander Holtz banged home a power-play goal at 11:09 of the period to extend Vegas’ lead to 3-1.
Third Period (NSH 3, VGK 3)
Jonathan Marchessault brought the Predators within one against his former team, finishing off a beautiful spinning setup pass from Zach L’Heureux just over a minute into the third period.
Marchessault, who won the Stanley Cup and Conn Smythe Trophy in 2022-23 with the Golden Knights, was honored in a pregame ceremony in his return to T-Mobile Arena. He spent seven seasons in Vegas from 2017-24 before signing with Nashville during the 2024 offseason.
