When asked this week whether quarterback Michael Penix, Jr. will start for the rest of the season, Falcons coach Raheem Morris was noncommittal.

Behind the scenes, the team is not noncommittal.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Penix will start for the rest of the season, barring injury.

It’s no surprise, but it hasn’t specifically been declared.

There are only three regular-season games remaining in 2024. If, however, the Falcons can make up only one game in the standings down the stretch, they’ll catch the Bucs and take the NFC South crown.

It remains to be seen how Penix plays. He has had very limited reps with the starting offense before this week. And, we’re told, he didn’t know it was even a possibility until he got the word it was happening.

Regardless, it has happened. And he’ll take the reins and keep them for the rest of 2024 — at a minimum.
