The Mets have reportedly agreed to a minor league deal with Rico Garcia and will extend an MLB camp invite to the right-hander, according to MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo.
If Garcia makes the roster out of camp, he will receive a pro-rated $900,000 salary in 2025.
Garcia, 30, spent the 2024 season in the Washington Nationals’ Triple-A team. Across 55 games, Garcia pitched to a 6-3 record, a 3.94 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP. He also led the International League with 20 saves out of 21 opportunities.
In 2023, Garcia pitched 10 games with the Oakland Athletics and Nationals. However, Garcia struggled when he had a 9.26 ERA.
This is the second reliever Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns has kicked the tires on this offseason. He claimed Kevin Herget off waivers from the Milwaukee Brewers in early November, and he will now add Garcia to potentially join the bullpen this upcoming season.
