Here’s the latest news and buzz on the Mets‘ top prospects…

OF Drew Gilbert, Triple-A Syracuse

The Mets’ No. 3 prospect had a big week at Triple-A with three home runs, including a three-run shot on Sunday.

Overall, the power surge accounted for all of what he did at the plate, with five hits in 23 at-bats driving in seven runs with three walks and three strikeouts.

Since coming off the injured list and joining Syracuse in late June, the 23-year-old has six extra-base hits and is batting .212 with a .676 OPS over 24 games.

3B Brett Baty, Triple-A Syracuse

Baty’s season hit a snag this week when the third baseman sustained a broken left index finger that will keep him out of action for several weeks, potentially ending his 2024 season.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza called the injury “a big blow” for the 24-year-old.

“Especially where we at in the season, his name’s one of the names that is probably in consideration for September [call-up],” Mendoza said Sunday after New York’s 3-2 loss in San Diego. “Now we just gotta get him back healthy, whatever long that is. But it’s a big blow for him and big blow for us.”

In 58 games at Triple-A, after he was demoted, Baty has slugged 16 home runs and tallied 43 RBI while batting .262 with an .886 OPS.

RHP Blade Tidwell, Triple-A Syracuse

The right-hander allowed four runs (two earned) on six hits and four walks with three strikeouts in 4.1 innings of action on Thursday night against the Durham Bulls.

Tidwell has struggled to find his footing since he was promoted to Triple-A in mid-May, pitching to a 5.46 ERA over his first 64.1 innings. Joe DeMayo’s No. 9 prospect in the system has particularly struggled to find the zone with 43 walks, after only posting 11 in his first 37.1 innings at Double-A.

RHP Brandon Sproat, Triple-A Syracuse

Sproat, DeMayo’s No. 5 prospect and MLB Pipeline’s No. 1 prospect, had a rough go at things on Wednesday allowing six runs on nine hits over 5.0 innings with three home runs allowed. The right-hander has made three starts since taking the leap to Syracuse from Binghamton and has allowed 13 runs on 18 hits over 12.2 innings, with one outing shortened due to an ejection.

RHP Nolan McLean, Double-A Binghamton

McLean pitched 4.2 innings of one-run baseball, surrendering just one hit and one walk on Sunday for the Rumble Ponies. The right-handed add seven strikeouts. He lowered his Double-A ERA to 4.30 over 67 innings and 15 outings.

This was the third straight solid outing for DeMayo’s No. 10 man in the Mets’ system. He allowed just one run on six hits and two walks with eight strikeouts over 11.1 innings in his previous two outings.

RHP Jonah Tong, High-A Brooklyn

The right-hander delivered five shutout innings with five hits and a walk and eight strikeouts for the Cyclones on Friday night.

DeMayo’s No. 14 prospect and MLB Pipeline’s No. 10 has made 18 appearances for Brooklyn on the year and pitched to a 3.47 ERA over 80.1 innings, holding opponents to a .220 average and .621 OPS. He has 106 strikeouts to 37 walks and allowed just a single home run on the year.

SS Jett Williams, Double-A Binghamton

The Mets’ No. 2 prospect was back on the field for a rehab assignment with Low-A St. Lucie this week for the first time since he was sidelined in April with a wrist injury.

In his first three games, the shortstop had a hit in each game to go 3-for-9 with a walk and three strikeouts.

The 20-year-old had seven hits in 39 at-bats (.180) with four extra-base hits in his 11 games at Double-A before his injury.
