Northwestern men’s golf tied for sixth place out of 24 teams at the Prestige at PGA West, where play took place Monday and Tuesday before Wednesday’s final round was canceled due to high winds.

Unsurprisingly, Daniel Svärd led the Wildcat charge by finishing in the top-10 at the Par 71, 7,094-yard course in La Quinta, Calif. Svärd began with a rocky 74 in Round 1, but he bounced back nicely on Tuesday, firing a 5-under 66 to vault into the top-10 individually. Svärd’s combined 140 put him just three shots behind leader Aiden Krafft and one shot behind four other players who tied for second at 139.

After Svärd, Ethan Tseng finished T29 after shooting 75 on Monday and 70 on Tuesday to finish at +3. Rowan Sullivan and Jeremy Chen slotted in at +4 and T41 after rounds of 75-71 and 70-76, respectively. Finally, Monty Holcombe finished at +8 and T66 after shooting 76-74 across the two days.

Separately, four Wildcat players also competed in the individual tournament at the GC At Terra Lago in Indio, Calif. Mark Gazi finished third overall after his 74-72-71 performances to finish with a 1-over 217. Isaac Lee was fourth, sitting just two shots behind Gazi after an electric 70-70 start gave way to a final-round 79.

Behind Gazi and Lee, Archie Finnie finished T34 at +19 after rounds of 73-76-86. Finally, Akshay Anand placed 40th for the ‘Cats, carding rounds of 83-79-80 to end at +26.

Up next, the ‘Cats have some time off before a two-day Colleton River Collegiate tournament taking place in Bluffton, S.C. from March 1-2.
